April 2026 Guide to San Diego: Events, New Restaurants, and What the Housing Market Is Doing Right Now

by Shirin Kheshti

April in San Diego is one of those months that reminds you why you live here. The weather finds its footing, the city gets active, and there is always more going on than people realize. Here is what I have been paying attention to this month: events, new openings, and a straight read on the housing market.

April Events Worth Putting on Your Calendar

A few of these have already happened, but most are still ahead.

The Goodguys Del Mar Nationals ran April 10-12 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with 2,500+ classic and custom cars across a three-day weekend. If you missed it, mark next year.

The Uncorked San Diego Wine Festival took place April 11 at Embarcadero Marina Park North, with 150+ wines and a waterfront setting. Also now behind us, but a great one to know about for next year.

Day at the Docks is April 19 at the San Diego Sportfishing Landings in Point Loma. This is the West Coast's largest public celebration of sportfishing and signals the official start of Southern California's spring fishing season. Free admission, family-friendly, and deeply local.

The Fallbrook Avocado Festival is also April 19 in downtown Fallbrook, 9 am to 5 pm. Free admission, 450 vendors, a guacamole contest, and the Avo 500 children's car race. Worth the drive.

The La Jolla Concours d'Elegance runs April 24-26 at Ellen Browning Scripps Park. This year marks the 20th anniversary, with the theme "Icons of Speed." The Saturday evening Porsches and Power showcase on Prospect Street is free and open to the public.

Mission Federal ArtWalk takes over Little Italy on April 25-26, Saturday 11 am to 6 pm and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm. Over 250 artists, four music stages, and free admission. One of San Diego's best annual traditions.

Adams Avenue Unplugged is April 25, noon to midnight, running along a two-mile stretch from University Heights through Normal Heights to Kensington. 90 live performances at 26 venues, almost entirely free.

Panda Fest makes its San Diego debut April 25-26 at Waterfront Park, with 80+ Asian food vendors, 200+ dishes, and cultural performances. Saturday 10 am to 10 pm, Sunday 10 am to 8 pm.

One more: if you have children and have not been to Butterfly Jungle at the Safari Park yet, it closes April 12. Might be the last weekend to catch it.

New and Coming Soon in San Diego

The dining scene in San Diego is genuinely having a moment in 2026. A few things worth knowing.

Katsuya Ko is open at Westfield UTC. It is a more casual, all-ages spin on Chef Katsuya Uechi's acclaimed Japanese brand, offering sushi, robata grilling, and shareable plates in a warm, approachable space.

JOEY Restaurant opened its first San Diego location at Westfield UTC on April 23. The Canadian-born group brings globally inspired dishes and a high-energy dining concept to La Jolla Village Drive.

EggBred, a scratch-made breakfast concept founded by Chef Albert Shim, is targeting a spring 2026 opening at 2800 El Cajon Boulevard in North Park.

Ikaria is the most ambitious restaurant opening on the horizon for San Diego this summer. From the team behind Puesto and Marisi, it will be a 250-seat Eastern Mediterranean restaurant near Torrey Pines, designed by the internationally recognized Rockwell Group. Wine classes, cooking workshops, and a stunning two-story build are all part of the concept.

The Boatyard on Shelter Island continues toward a summer 2026 opening. Michelin-starred Chef Jason McLeod leads the kitchen at this nautical-themed steakhouse with a hidden speakeasy, stepping into the space long held by Fiddler's Green.

The Baby Grand in Coronado, Consortium Holdings' reimagined boutique hotel at 1315 Orange Avenue, is very close to opening. With it comes Nighthawk, a Greek-Mediterranean brasserie, and Fallen Empire, an intimate oyster and champagne lounge with a secret entrance.

The San Diego Housing Market Right Now

Here is what the numbers are showing for the San Diego market heading into spring.

Median sold price: $897,500, up 2.6% from the prior month. Average days on market: 45, down 6.7% from the prior month. List-to-sale price ratio: 98.3%, up 0.5% from the prior month.

What those numbers mean in plain terms: homes are selling faster and closer to asking price than they were just a month ago. Buyers are competing more than they were in February or March.

If you are thinking about buying, being prepared and decisive matters right now. The window to negotiate softly is getting smaller.

If you are thinking about selling, this is actually an encouraging moment. Prices are up, inventory is still limited, and strategic pricing and thoughtful preparation are driving the strongest results.

Every situation is different, and what these numbers mean for your specific home or your specific search depends on a lot of factors. If you want to talk through what this market looks like for you, I am happy to do that.
