Coronado Real Estate - Homes for Sale in Coronado, CA
Coronado is the peninsula across San Diego Bay from downtown, reached by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, which opened in 1969 and runs just over two miles across the water, or by the Silver Strand, a seven-mile sandy isthmus that connects Coronado to Imperial Beach to the south. The city sits within ZIP code 92118 and carries its history openly, from the Hotel del Coronado, the Victorian beach resort built in 1888 whose red turrets still anchor the shoreline, to Naval Air Station North Island at the peninsula's northern tip, recognized as the birthplace of naval aviation. Orange Avenue runs through the heart of the Village with its shops and restaurants, and homes range from Victorian, Spanish Colonial Revival, and Craftsman houses near downtown to waterfront estates with private docks in the Coronado Cays.
CA
Coronado
Coronado was incorporated as its own city in 1890, a small town that happens to sit minutes from downtown across the bay. The Hotel del Coronado opened in 1888 and was the largest hotel in the world at the time, and it remains the town's anchor today, its red-roofed turrets visible from most of the beach. The Navy has been part of Coronado just as long. Naval Air Station North Island, at the peninsula's north end, carries the official designation of birthplace of naval aviation, a history that still shapes the town, with active duty families and retired officers making up a large share of residents alongside longtime civilian homeowners. Orange Avenue is the town's main street, and most everything is walkable from there, the beach, the ferry landing, the golf course at Glorietta Bay.

About Coronado
Coronado is a small city that happens to share its address with one of the most important naval installations on the West Coast. Elisha Babcock and Hampton Story bought Coronado and North Island for $110,000 in December 1885, opened the Hotel del Coronado less than three years later in 1888, and the city incorporated on December 11, 1890. The hotel earned National Historic Landmark status in 1977 and is still the reason most visitors first hear of Coronado, but it is really just one building at the north end of a peninsula that sits entirely inside zip code 92118, connected to San Diego by a 2.12 mile bridge and, if you would rather skip the car, a ferry that has been carrying people across the bay for decades. Coronado functions as two different places depending on which street you are standing on, a tourist economy along Orange Avenue and the beachfront, and a quiet Navy town a few blocks inland.
Miguel's Cocina and Clayton's Coffee Shop on Orange Avenue are the kind of places regulars mention without thinking, and MooTime Creamery a few doors down is where a lot of evening walks end up. Bay Books covers the bookstore and coffee shop niche most walkable neighborhoods want and few actually have. Down at the water, the Ferry Landing Marketplace holds more than 25 shops and three sit-down restaurants with a straight-on view of the downtown San Diego skyline. Coronado Village sits on a walkable grid with classic single family homes, Coronado Cays offers waterfront homes built around private docks along the Silver Strand, and Coronado Shores is ten oceanfront high rise towers with 1,800 feet of beach frontage. Naval Air Station North Island anchors the north end as homeport to two aircraft carriers.
