North Park Beer Co. anchors the University Avenue and 30th Street corner in a Craftsman-style building, with a hazy IPA program that's become one of the better-known in the city. Communal Coffee, a plant shop and cafe in one, is the neighborhood's go-to for a slow breakfast. The Observatory North Park occupies the old North Park Theatre, which opened in 1929 as a bank, retail and vaudeville building and has since been converted into a concert venue. On Thursdays from 3 to 7:30pm, North Park Way closes down for the North Park Farmers Market, with more than 50 vendors. The SDCCU Festival of Arts takes over nine blocks of University Avenue every May and typically draws more than 40,000 people.
